SIP 2025 - Communications Intern (Off Campus) at Shoes and Clothes for Kids

The mission of Shoes and Clothes for Kids is to break barriers to school attendance by providing shoes, clothes, and school supplies to students in need.

Note: In-person interviews will be conducted on Feb. 28, 2025, at West and Metro. These interview fairs are your only opportunity to meet and interview with hiring supervisors.

The Communications Intern will assist with aspects of SC4K's communications activities, including, but not limited to, social media planning and posting, drafting promotional and transactional emails, and developing content for other communications such as the website, blog, social media, printed materials, and donor communications. The Intern will assist with board and partner communication, updating office calendars, and sending internal reminders to staff informing them and reminding them about upcoming communication activities. The intern will identify potential new press and publicity opportunities to help raise awareness about our organization. The intern will be invited to participate in internal and external meetings related to the organization's communications and fundraising activities, which will provide exposure to the career fields of nonprofit communications and marketing. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstratable proficiency in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, and YouTube) and using social media to promote events, mission-based activities, and partners, sponsors, and volunteers.
  • Knowledge of basic graphic design & photography principals using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite Software (Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign). Experience writing and editing promotional and informational collateral (brochures, emails, flyers, advertisements), proposal writing experience is a plus!
  • Ability to understand directions, ask questions when needed, and complete work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to manage time efficiently and able to multi-task during the day to meet assigned daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines.
  • Must possess leaderships skills to make full use of diverse groups of volunteers and other paid temporary staff members.
  • Must be able to work in a professional, team environment showing flexibility and desire to learn from SC4K team members and other interns.
  • If possible, Intern should be willing to utilize personal cell phone for photography and social media posting during on and offsite distributions, events, and meetings. (Photos must be deleted after posting and uploading to SC4K’s shared drive).
  • Must be able to lift at least 10 lbs.

Program Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in current semester (Spring 2025)
  • Must enroll in a minimum of one Summer 2025 course
  • Must be returning to Tri-C for Fall 2025 Semester
  • Must have a declared major on record

This position is part of the Cuyahoga Community College Summer Internship Program.
