SIP 2025 - CDL License Verification Specialist (Off Campus) at City of Cleveland

The Department of Public Works is the City’s third-largest department, with over 1,100 dedicated employees serving Cleveland. The Department is responsible for core services, which each year includes picking up approximately 156,000 tons of waste, spreading an estimated 70,000 tons of salt onto icy roads, painting over 7,000 crosswalks, and providing over 49,000 vacant property service visits.

Note: In-person interviews will be conducted on Feb. 28, 2025, at West and Metro. These interview fairs are your only opportunity to meet and interview with hiring supervisors.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and diligent CDL License Verification Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for verifying the validity of Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) for current City of Cleveland Department of Public Works drivers. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to learn the ins and outs of CDL verification and compliance. No prior experience required—training will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Verify CDL Validity: Conduct thorough checks of Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) to ensure they are current, valid, and compliant with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate with Division/Agencies: Work with internal divisions, state licensing authorities, DMV, and other regulatory bodies (ODOT) to obtain and confirm CDL information.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of CDL verification status and report any discrepancies.
  • Data Entry: Enter and update CDL information into City’s databases, ensuring data integrity.
  •  Compliance Monitoring: Ensure CDL holders meet regulatory requirements, including medical certifications and endorsements.
  • Communication: Interact with drivers and department HR managers to communicate CDL verification status and request additional information when necessary.
  • Problem Resolution: Investigate discrepancies in CDL documentation and work to resolve any issues.
  • Confidentiality: Handle sensitive information with the highest degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
    Qualifications:
  •  Education: High school diploma or G.E.D is required.  An Associate or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited two year or four year college or university in Business or Public Administration, or closely related field preferred.
  • Experience: No prior experience required. Training will be provided, though prior experience in transportation, compliance, or administrative roles is a plus.

 Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Outlook email, Teams etc.).
  • Ability to learn new software tools and systems quickly.

Program Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in current semester (Spring 2025)
  • Must enroll in a minimum of one Summer 2025 course
  • Must be returning to Tri-C for Fall 2025 Semester
  • Must have a declared major on record
